Seminar Project - 'A Piece of Cake'

This module was designed with a view to enabling students to integrate theory and practice while responding to the theory of cultural capital introduced by Pierre Bourdieu. For example, the framework and structures within the art market, and or an alternative; 'learning to inhabit the world in a better way, instead of trying to construct it based on a preconceived idea of historical evolution,' relational art.

Nicholas Bourriaud in his book, Relational Aesthetics, published in 1998, contends that the role of artworks is no longer to form imaginary and utopian realities. He asserts that, 'art is the place that produces a specific sociability,' 'is a state of encounter' and that arts sociability is the principal object of relational art.

After much consideration, it was agreed that we would hold a tea party where people would be invited to join us in having a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
